Australia will unite tomorrow (Tuesday) in a campaign to end men’s violence against women – White Ribbon Day on November 25th is Australia’s observance of International Elimination of Violence against Women Day. Interwoven with international anti violence and human rights initiatives, White Ribbon Day also represents the beginning of 16 days of Activism to Stop Violence Against Women which ends on December 10 – Human Rights Day.

The White Ribbon campaign is unique in that it is male-led; rather than only focussing on women’s roles in women’s safety, White Ribbon make women’s safety a man’s issue too, with the ultimate goal of all women enjoying a life of safety, free from men’s violence.

One woman, on average, is killed every week as a result of intimate partner violence in Australia each year. The team at White Ribbon are working tirelessly to change this alarming statistic and believe men are the answer to effective change. The White Ribbon campaign recognises the positive role men play in preventing violence against women and encourage men to be leaders, speak out against violence and challenge attitudes that promote and support violence against women.

Research has shown that by working towards reducing gender inequality in social policy, as well as increasing the respect between men and women, attitudes that support violence against women have reduced.

This year, the White Ribbon team have made it easier than ever before for Australia to share their message of support for the end of violence against women. Simply visit http://www.whiteribbon.org.au/thunderclap/ and sign up, allowing Thunderclap to post once only to your Facebook and Twitter account on November 25th. The goal is to have thousands of social media messages delivered at the same time on the same day (White Ribbon Day) to allow Australia to unite in enacting change.

Here at Robina Group, we’ve signed up through social media to show our support this White Ribbon Day, so we can let the world know where we stand – we say no to violence against women.

Join the conversation to make a change and swear the White Ribbon oath to never commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women.
