It’s the annual outdoor arts event that swings Gold Coast City into spring – the Swell Sculpture Festival – and its set to kick off this Friday 13 September 2013.

Promising 10 huge days of artistic exhibition, the Swell Sculpture Festival will display over 50 sculptures from international, national and local artists along the picturesque shores of Gold Coast City’s Currumbin Beach.

Open all hours, the festival offers both viewing by day as well as the opportunity to view the artworks lit up under the night sky.

According to event panellist, former Queensland Government Architect Philip Follent, this year’s Swell artworks promise both energy and controversy, with a diverse field of artists, including up and coming sculptors offering fresh, new and innovative designs.

Not only are the 50 + artists gaining sought after exposure of their works, but also have the opportunity to win the coveted $15,000 Swell Sculpture Award.

Swell 2013 is even more than amazing artworks along the beachfront, but also a huge programme of events including twilight sculpture walks, artist talks, education and workshops and kids activities such as the Dr Doo-Lots Koala Capers Game Show, Animals with Attitude, creative outlet the Green Room and daily treasure hunts.

The weekends will see Swell Sounds produce sweet and sultry tunes from the Alley Marquee, including Triple J Unearthed Indigenous Music Award winner Robbie Miller and the unique and funky afro-island soul sounds of Bobby Alu. In addition, The Village Green at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary will come alive with local artists and acoustic afternoon sessions.

Pop-up restaurants and ice cream from the iconic Mr Whippy will compliment the existing award-winning cafes and restaurants in the area, ensuring you experience all the gourmet goodness Gold Coast City has to offer.

Be sure to visit the Swell Sculpture Festival at Pacific Parade, Currumbin Beach from Friday 13 September to Sunday 22 September 2013.
