The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Coordination Commission said they were impressed with the progress of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games following the first biannual technical review of the Gold Coast City games last week.

The Coordination Commission reviewed key elements of planning with the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) executives and relevant government agencies, confirming the games are on-time and on-budget.

Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Jann Stuckey said the results of the commission’s review are a great endorsement for the progress that has been made in Gold Coast City.

“The Coordination Commission brings great expertise in the delivery of this event.  Their recognition of work underway and already completed means that we are set to deliver a world-class event,” she said.

“I am delighted that the Commission has reinforced that we are well and truly on track and are in fact impressed with a number of areas in our planning.”

Robina’s Skilled Park will host the Rugby Sevens competition in 2018. Currently home to the Gold Coast Titans and World Series Rugby Sevens matches, the Robina stadium is considered one of the best regional stadiums in Australia, equipped with multiple player change rooms and corporate, hospitality and media facilities.

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games CEO Mark Peters said the Commonwealth Games creates many opportunities for the Gold Coast.

“It’s not just about delivering an 11 day event – it is about using the Games to create a decade of opportunity,” he said.
