Fitness for all

Calling all fitness fanatics, families and Robina regulars – the Gold Coast’s largest outdoor gym has landed, and it’s just around the corner.

The exercise park has equipment that will rival any conventional gym with the benefits of fresh air and sunshine.

Located on Lake Street, right in the heart of Varsity Lakes, the InsideR team decided to check-out Central Park for ourselves, so we  grabbed our favourite workout gear and headed on over.

Living on the Gold Coast, we’re lucky enough to experience 300 days of sunshine per year, so there’s no excuse not to get fit and healthy in the great outdoors.

The gym is situated next to a series of walking tracks, providing the perfect place to warm-up and get the blood pumping before trying out some of the quality new equipment.

From a distance, it can look intimidating to a non gym-goer, however on approach, we realised there were helpful signs showing how to use the various pieces of equipment and what part of the body the exercise targets.

We started on the ‘aerobic cycle’, which is similar to a stationary bike, to turn our workout up a notch. We then moved to the ‘leg press’ and followed the instructions to finish off the leg component of our workout.

We then moved across to the ‘roman rings’ to work on our upper body strength and even gave the monkey bars a go – where we quickly learned our upper body strength was definitely a work in progress.

We finished off with some sit-ups on the multi-bench and tried our hand at some planks in the hope of finding our elusive six-packs.

The equipment was straight-forward to use, and the information signs meant even if you had never worked-out before, you could still have fun while staying safe on the equipment.

There was something for all ages and abilities, and the whole section was covered by a large shelter, so even though we were enjoying the great outdoors, we didn’t have to worry about sun damage.

With school holidays just around the corner, it would be a great place to take the kids to burn off some energy. You could even incorporate some games on the machines to keep their interest, or better yet, participate too. There’s even a hop scotch, four square and a half basketball court to shoot hoops, so the fun can last for hours.

The park caters for everyone from fitness fanatics to families looking to have a bit of active fun – we would definitely recommend giving it a whirl when you have some free time. You can even reward yourself with a delicious meal from one of Varsity’s many trendy cafes (think Blackboard Coffee) or bring your own food to cook-up a storm in one of the provided barbecues next to the gym once you’re done!

Happy exercising!
