2014 sees the 10th anniversary of the historic d’Arcy Doyle Art Awards and to celebrate, it’s expanding into a new community event, in addition to the iconic Mudgeeraba awards.

Since commencing in 2004, the d’Arcy Doyle Art Awards have honoured local and interstate artists through this prestigious art event and in recognition of its investment into community, it will now spearhead the inaugural d’Arcy Doyle Arts Festival for Gold Coast City.

For one huge month from 13 June to 13 July 2014, the local art community will unite to bring Gold Coast City a superb and stunning visual experience.

The Tallai Country Golf Club plays host to the very first d’Arcy Doyle ‘Sports’ Art Award and for the whole four weeks of the festival, it will feature art works, caricatures and paintings with a sporting theme.

Another addition to the awards this year sees an outdoor public sculpture display set up at Boomerang Farm, which will display the dynamic d’Arcy Doyle Sculpture Award and Exhibition.

Wrapping up the festival for the final 12 days, the Mudgeeraba Memorial Hall is once again home to the iconic d’Arcy Doyle Art Awards and will showcase over 400 artworks for sale, as well as a twilight entertainment program including live music, artists in residence and kids fun.

As part of the 2-13 July awards, this Mudgeeraba venue will also host the Junior d’Arcy Doyle Art Awards, providing a platform for young artists to showcase their talent and the numerous visitors to the event.

Mudgeeraba Market Shopping Centre will also display pottery and ceramics section of the awards, open during centre hours for public viewing and purchase.

Kicking off the awards again this year is the D’Arcy Doyle Invitational Golf Day this Saturday 21 June 2014

Thursday 3 July will round out the awards and festival with the grand finale awards night presentation.

As proud sponsors of the second prize in the landscape division, one of our Robina Group team will be in attendance to present to the winner.

The d’Arcy Doyle Art Awards return to the Gold Coast City community is three-fold – not only do the exhibitions provide a vehicle for artists young and old to present their works to the public, the awards issued and associated media coverage give the winning artists recognition on a wider scale, helping to further their careers. The d’Arcy Doyle Art Awards also contribute to the thriving culture of our ever eclectic Gold Coast City.

So what’s in the name and who’s behind this growing community arts celebration?

d’Arcy William Doyle was a Mudgeeraba local for 30 years until his death in 2001 and his remarkable career saw him go from humble beginnings as a signmaker to a full-time celebrated artist. Accomplished in still life and portraiture, d’Arcy’s signature style was using everyday life as his subject and theme. d’Arcy excelled in finding inspiration in the ordinary and his images have been celebrated for being quintessentially Australian and effective in capturing national identity.

Winning over the Australian people with his ability to evoke emotion through his art, d’Arcy became Australia’s best selling artist in the early 1980’s.

Mudgeeraba local and d’Arcy Doyle Art Awards Event Director Earle Hinschen responded to the arts community and in honour of d’Arcy Doyle’s extensive career, initiated the event in 2001, with the Doyle family’s blessing.

And the rest, they say, is history.

Now into its tenth year, the d’Arcy Doyle Arts Awards has put Gold Coast City firmly on the arts scene map and is now a nationally recognised event, drawing loads of visitors each year. With the prize money now totalling $17,500 and the significant scope of the event, the awards attracts some of Australia’s best quality artists and some of the most astute buyers of art.
