A kaleidoscope of colour, culture and creativity is kicking off this Saturday 7 September 2013. The month long Brisbane Festival promises to bring Queenslanders the best of the best dance, comedy, theatre, music, circus and more.

Spring has sprung and sun-drenched days are followed by mild, balmy nights and there is no better time of year to be in Brisbane than this September.

With an absolutely huge programme planned over the month, there is something for everyone at this festival event.

There’s Urban, the lively and dynamic circus show that has been blazing stages from Paris to Colombia, telling the story of joy, colour and hardship through music, acrobatics and dance.

For music fans, a huge lineup that will suit every taste features artists such as Paul Kelly, Australian String Quartet Debussy, indie band Beach Fossils, Hungry Kids of Hungary, ‘Koori King of Country’ Roger Knox and Family and grunge island rock group Doku Rai Band. Singing groups and choirs as well as City Hall and QUT concert series events will showcase up and coming artists and the Riverstage will play host to Symphony under the Stars.

There’s musical, dance and theatre acts a-plenty, with critics picks of the bunch being ‘A Western’, described as a chaotic, ramshackle remake of the classic western and ’30 Cecil Street’, a heart wrenching farewell to a ruined theatre. Then there are classics such as Wizard of Oz and unique participatory theatre ‘My name is’.

Vivacious visual arts are also on offer, with the Brisbane Airport Light Garden and several other superb exhibitions and projects.

Not to be missed is the huge Opening day concert, a free sunset experience on the banks of the Brisbane River, as well as the spectacular Sunsuper Riverfire, which will close the event on September 28th.

With Brisbane less an than hour from Robina on the upgraded M1 motorway, the Brisbane Festival is a must do calendar event for Gold Coast City locals this September.
