The Bond Institute of Health and Sport is the latest addition to the CBDRobina health and sport precinct, home to over 160 students studying programs out of the Institute.

Bond University bought the building in September 2012 and opened its doors to 160 students in May 2013, with more to join in early 2014.

Located between Skilled Park and Robina Train Station at the geographic heart of Gold Coast City, the Institute features state of the art equipment and world-class training and testing facilities.

Head of the School of Health Sciences Professor Roger Hughes said the location of the Institute in CBDRobina places Bond University in the central health and sport hub of Gold Coast City.

“Robina is fast becoming a major health precinct of the Gold Coast and the prime location offers students unparalleled access to public transport including a train line direct to Brisbane and bus lines that connect to the University campus,” he said.

Bond University’s Exercise and Sports Science, Physiotherapy and Sports Management programs currently operate out of the Institute, with the new Nutrition and Dietetics course to begin in May 2014.

Exercise and Sports Science student Robbie Palmer said he was impressed by the Institute’s facilities, and liked having a specialised building for health and sport.

“We get to use some awesome equipment in our labs, we can loan video analysis equipment if we need, and the cafe downstairs is great,” he said.

“It’s great to be able to say we have our own building at the home of Gold Coast City’s rugby league team.”

Bond University’s four-year partnership with the Qantas Wallabies as their Official Education Partner will welcome the rugby union team to Robina’s sport hub, the partnership giving the Qantas Wallabies, Qantas Men’s and Women’s Sevens and Australian Under-20s sides access to Bond’s training facilities and the research facilities at the Bond Institute of Health and Sport.

Australian Rugby Union CEO Bill Pulver said the partnership presents opportunities to rugby union and Gold Coast City.

“This partnership strengthens our ties to the Gold Coast and offers our national teams access to elite training venues and sports science facilities,” he said.
