During the month of May 2014, Robina’s iconic Bond University will celebrate 25 years of education, innovation and achievement and a series of exciting events are planned to mark this historic milestone.

As Australia’s very first not-for-profit, private university, Bond has paved the way, pioneering a distinct, accelerated and individual learning experience. Contributing to and connecting our global community, this unique tertiary institution has attracted ambitious and bright students and outstanding academics from all around the world.As such, Bond University currently enjoys the highest rating in the world for educational experience.

Hailing from humble beginnings and big dreams, Bond University’s success has put Gold Coast City firmly on the educational world map and this May, it’s all about acknowledging and celebrating the journey so far.

This Thursday 15 May 2014, it’s Foundation Day at Bond, the official day of festivities dedicated to the university’s 25th birthday. In a nod to Bond’s famous founder, Bond’s faculty student association’s will battle for the “America’s Cup” on land, followed by student vs. staff volleyball competition. When night draws close, Bond will transform for the International Food Festival, featuring delectable delights from across the globe, plus entertainment galore and fireworks display.

Friday 16 May sees a jam-packed day of events as part of the Bond Homecoming Community Day.

The day kicks off with the Business Leaders Breakfast, showcasing Mr Alex Malley, CEO of CPA Australia, who will share his expert outlook on all things economic.

The community day will also feature career care with a “career check-up” and LinkdIn masterclass, as well as the opportunity to explore faculties within the university, including visiting the Abedian School of Architecture, which recently won Gold Coast City building of the year. There’s a free BBQ lunch on campus to encourage networking with fellow alumni, students, staff and members of our Gold Coast City community.

Later on Friday, Bond will host ‘Women’s High Tea’, chaired by Catherine O’Sullivan, Pro Vice Chancellor Pathways and Partnerships, dedicated to the celebration of women over Bond’s rich twenty-five year history. One of the stars of the 25th anniversary celebrations, the high tea will see fundamental women from the Bond community share their inspirational stories and unique insights about challenges women face in business, education and community. Focussing on how women can make a difference, be empowered and effect positive social change, this signature event is not to be missed.

Saturday 17 May 2014 sees 25th anniversary celebrations take to the sporting field. The Southport School takes on Scots College on the Bond University rugby field and it’s a classic grudge match, set to become an annual event as Gold Coast City’s rugby union answer to State of Origin. It’s to be an exciting sporting experience and a past players reunion, with spectators including alumni, Scots and TSS Old Boys and community leaders, such as Scots College Old Boy, Gold Coast City Mayor Tom Tate.

Later on Saturday night, Bond lights up for the 25th Anniversary Gala Ball at the Gold Coast City Convention and Exhibition Centre. A night of fine food and entertainment, the Gala Ball will feature Bond alumnus James Smith as MC, student speeches and fire drums, dancing and music.

Last but by no means least, as part of the legendary Live at Bond series, Bond’s ADCO amphitheatre will come alive with the electrifying 9 piece soul-revivalist sounds of Saskwatch. Featured recently on Triple J’s ‘Like a Version’ and hailing fresh from epic performances at the iconic Byron Bay Blues Festival, Saskwatch will perform for the very first time in Gold Coast City, free of charge, this Sunday at Bond. Support act Onyx Reign, from the Aboriginal Centre for Performing Arts, are set to warm up the stage with their hot and fresh blends of originals and covers. Two bars and a coffee van will serve up drinks and snacks; there’s no better way to spend your Sunday than basking in the sun and sweet soul sounds at Bond University.
