Coffee heaven
Walking into Blackboard Coffee, there is an immediate sense of comfort in the relaxed vibe that welcomes you to the earthy infused and decorated cafe. With a mix of corporates, university students, friends, families and those popping in to pick up a quick coffee, it’s clear this café perched lakeside in Varsity is a ‘place to be’. We know how great the coffee is already (yes, we’re guilty of the morning coffee run), so we thought we’d put Blackboard’s all-day menu to the test.
We were immediately greeted by the smiling faces of the Blackboard team and despite being busy, found it easy to walk in and find a table. It only took one glance over the fresh all-day menu, before we placed our order – the gourmet Cheeseburger, with chips, and a nourishing Garden Bowl Salad, with poached egg, made it to the top of the list.
A quick ten minutes and we saw our meals heading for our table. At that moment, we knew we were in for a treat. The cheeseburger left us wondering how to tackle it, but the answer was to simply delve in … and that’s exactly what we did. One bite and we were pleasantly hit by a triple treat of gourmet beef patty, ooozing cheese and tomato relish – achieved with a perfect ‘relish ratio’, of not too little and not too much. The combination was topped off with bacon and leafy lettuce for the perfect succulent gourmet burger. Everyone knows you can’t have a burger without chips, so the shoestring chips and aioli that accompanied were the perfect touch.
Blackboard’s Garden Bowl continued to impress. With a zesty flavouring, this bowl was packed full of cucumber, carrot, baby radish, zucchini, kale and half an avocado (yes, not just a spoonful!) and we can honestly say we got our money’s worth. Something unique about this bowl was the basil pesto filling infused within the core of the avocado. It was the perfect added touch We also added poached eggs to this bowl, which ensured we walked away feeling not only nourished and fresh, but pleasantly full. Sipping on our in-house tropical and green juices, we gave the ultimate tick to the Cheesburger and Chips and Garden Salad Bowl.
We couldn’t go past the range of sweet and savoury delicacies neatly presented and awaiting our attention at the front counter. We picked up a caramel infused doughnut, which needs no review, it was simply divine. With an ideal mix of snickers, chocolate and crumbly slice, we can confirm the Snickers Slice was also everything we wished for and more. The PB Ball was no exception and again, served as the perfect bite-sized treat for the taste-buds.
If you’re looking for a great location, fantastic team and even BETTER food, then Blackboard Coffee might just be the place for you. We give it thumbs up, and think you will too.
