The NBA – it’s notoriously all American, yet two Aussie heroes have broken down the U.S. barrier and are making their mark on the world stage.

Aussie Olympian Aron Baynes is into his second massive year signed with the San Antonio Spurs in the legendary NBA league and has just been part of history making, helping his team take out the 2014 NBA Championship title in their finals game against Miami Heat today 16 June 2014.

Aron’s Canberra born team-mate Patty Mills played a critical role in today’s finals victory getting the Spurs out to a championship-winning lead in the third quarter with a series of three-pointers.

Forward Baynes came on in the final two minutes and scored two points.

Following a disappointing finals series in 2013, The Spurs crushed Miami 104-87, in this year’s final, earning their first championship in seven years. Giving fans edge-of-their-seat basketball, the Spurs trailed through the first half of the game but spurred a remarkable comeback in the third quarter to take out the title in spectacular fashion.

Aron Baynes and Patty Mills are just the third and fourth Australians to ever win NBA Championships.  Mills is the first indigenous Australian to win an NBA championship.

Well done Aron Baynes and Patty Mills for taking it to Texas and congratulations to the San Antonio Spurs for putting on an exhilarating and epic ending to the 2014 NBA season.
