News that soccer stars Manchester City will be playing at Cbus Super Stadium on July 18 has been welcomed by Robina Business Alliance which says it is an indication of what the future could hold if the RBA’s plans to facilitate a super sports precinct within Robina/Varsity evolve.
RBA President Nic Rone said a dedicated sports precinct surrounding Cbus Super Stadium was one of the group’s core goals and talks were underway with key stakeholders to further that goal.
“With the stadium, Bond University’s high performance sports medical research facility, nearby sports grounds and the heavy rail link providing transportation to the precinct we believe it is a perfect location for a multi sports facility that acts as a magnet for major events such as the Manchester City match with Melbourne City,” he said.
“Our grand vision would see sports such as soccer, rugby league, rugby union, swimming, cycling and marathon events all happen within the Robina / Varsity sports precinct. “ The flow on benefits in terms of sports tourism would be enormous.
“The Mayor Tom Tate has said that officials involved in the Manchester City event were wanting to see Cbus Super Stadium filled and we will be doing everything in our power to assist with that outcome.”
