There’s a new initiative taking off in Gold Coast City and it’s going to change the way we move.

The City of Gold Coast have launched their Robina Active Towns Program, which aims to get Gold Coasters out of their cars, with the mission to rapidly increase walking and cycling in local communities.

Targeted investment in infrastructure programs and events promoting behaviour change by City of Gold Coast are underpinned by this active initiative, with projects such as the new shared bike path along Robina Town Centre Drive connecting walkers and riders from Robina Train Station to Robina Town Centre.

Wednesday 15 October 2014 marks national Ride to Work Day and as part of the Robina Active Towns Program, City of Gold Coast are hosting a free breakfast in Robina for all Gold Coasters who ride to work that day.

Located on the lawn at the front of Bliss Cafe and the Robina Community Centre, riders can pull up between 7am and 9am and have breakfast and coffee courtesy of City of Gold Coast. Each rider will also be given a free take-home coffee cup.

A local Gold Coast City bicycle retailer will be set up at the event to provide tips and techniques on all things biking, as well as basic bike checks. Riders can also grab a copy of the new Robina and Varsity Lakes Walk and Cycle guide, which shows all the walking and cycling facilities in our local community, as well as recommended routes between key destinations.

The urban centre of Robina boasts an abundance of picturesque parklands, cycle pathways and waterside walkways, perfect for cycling, walking or running to work.

With an extensive network of on-road bikeways, off-road shared paths and dedicated bike paths, it’s never been easier to ride to work in Gold Coast City.

Riding to work has a long list of benefits, including increase in health, fitness and wellbeing, enhanced productivity at work due to more sustained energy, cost savings on car registration, fuel and parking, less congestion on the roads contributing to a healthier environment and time saving due to avoiding traffic delays.

In addition to these benefits, the easy sub-tropical Gold Coast City climate offers many warm, sunny days for walkers and riders to enjoy the great outdoors.

Register today for Ride to Work Day and go into the draw for some great prizes, including a one on one coaching session with Olympic champion Sara Carrigan, Event Cinema Robina movie passes, $150 bicycle retail voucher and a personal mountain biking skills session.

Get your workplace on board, support your colleagues and share the message on social media – Gold Coast City, it’s time to change the way we move.
