As we rug up at home tomorrow night, spare a thought for the hundreds of Gold Coast City community members taking part in the annual Vinnie’s Community Sleepout, held at The Southport School.

Sleeping the night on a piece of cardboard, fuelled only with a light dinner and a warm drink, participants this Thursday will experience what life is like for more than 105,000 Australians that are homeless each night of the year. Around half of those without a home are women and about one quarter are under the age of 18.

Hundreds of brave Gold Coast City residents have registered for the sleepout, fundraising for the St Vincent De Paul Society, affectionately known as Vinnie’s.

Vinnie’s work tirelessly in our community, across all facets of society, including the provision of homelessness support, crisis accommodation and undertaking research and advocacy for housing affordability and homelessness.

As well as raising awareness about the pervasive issue of homelessness in our community, Gold Coast City’s Vinnie’s Community Sleepout will raise much-needed funds for Vinnie’s to continue in their fight against homelessness.

Gold Coast City – get involved in this event by registering to sleep rough this Thursday 10 July 2014 (over 18’s only) or jump on the Vinnie’s Community Sleepout website and reward the bravery of participants by donating to their fundraising efforts.
