The handing down of Gold Coast City Council’s annual Budget for 2013-14 has revealed that Robina will be the recipient of a range of new funding allocations which will fuel further growth and momentum for the area.
In recognition of Robina’s central location and continual growth, the area has been selected as a pilot location for the Queensland Cycle Strategy’s ‘Active Towns’ project. Aiming to increase local community walking and cycling, the Active Towns program will deliver in the 2013-14 financial year more than $1 million of funding and will include connections and pathways between Robina Rail Station, Robina Town Centre and various links around Robina Primary School (Glen Eagles Drive).
In the divisional funds, Cr Jan Grew of Division 11 has exciting plans for Robina and the surrounding areas and has secured funding to set these plans into motion.
Planning for Robina City Parklands, a new, lush green parkland and fitness circuit forming part of Gold Coast City Councils Green Heart Vision, is well underway and significant funds have been allocated to progress with these works. According to Cr Grew, communications have commenced with organisers of events such as Tough Mudder and Raw Challenge in relation to the planned Robina City Parklands, located next to Skilled Park, Robina. These popular events have attracted over 18,000 entrants in the Sunshine Coast, potentially bringing an unrivalled boost for tourism to the Robina region.
Exciting events for Robina have also been allocated funding, including for the 2014 Gold Coast Pet and Animal Expo in October, which promises to be the biggest yet and includes the Australian Outback Spectacular and the Animal Education Unit from Dreamworld.
Further funds are set aside for other exciting Robina Community Centre events, including the Women’s Health and Wellbeing Expo, seniors cinema, Anzac Day ceremonies, Australian Army band and Queensland Police Pipes and Drums concerts.
In addition, there are allocations assigned to the Robina Youth Centre and PCYC project and a grant application is in progress with the Federal Government for the remaining cost, which Cr Grew hopes to have finalised as successful in the coming weeks.
These exciting Division 11 plans reflect that the thriving Robina region is placed firmly on the map in Gold Coast City growth and is continuing to flourish as a prime location to live, work and play.
