According to the Gold Coast Bulletin, Robina Hospital is the second busiest hospital in Queensland, equal to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital, taking on more than 5000 patients a month.

The large increase in patients led to Queensland Health management successfully seeking more funding and securing $3.4 million to boost services.

Originally built as a private hospital with some public service capacity, Robina Hospital was acquired by the Queensland government in 2002 and was doubled in size in an expansion to a 364 bed facility with 80% single rooms.

Robina Hospital now provides a wide range of health services, including 24 hour emergency, intensive care, surgery and general medicine, as well as allied health, mental health and more.

In addition, Robina Hospital, in partnership with Bond University Medical Faculty, is active partner in the provision of quality on-site learning, teaching and research.

The Bond University Clinical Education and Research Centre is located on the ground floor of Robina Hospital and is a collaborative project between Bond University, the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine and Queensland Health.

The centre provides the main teaching site for year 3 students of the MBBS program at Bond, with the aim of smoothly transitioning students into clinical placements at Robina Hospital in years 4 and 5. Through co-location within the Robina Hospital precinct, the program introduces students to the hospital environment and delivery of health care services.

In addition to Robina’s state of the art hospital facility, the surrounding area has continued to grow at as a health services hub, featuring essential community health services within Queensland Health’s Robina Health Precinct, a range of health services within Campus Alpha and multiple and varied medical, allied and alternative health providers within the wider Robina area.
