Brave, bold and brilliant

Robina’s local baseball club, Robina Braves, is rising through the ranks and making a name for itself and its players on the national stage.

Boasting outstanding results from the summer season that just wrapped in March, including the Division 2 Seniors as reigning champions, the Division 1 Seniors as runners up and the Little League Minors as runners up, it’s clear this little club is bound for big things.

From their home at Robina Common in Ron Pehhaligon Way, the club serves the local Gold Coast community of baseball lovers, which according to Robina Braves secretary, Jacquie Arlow, is an ever-growing group.

“Baseball is predominately an American sport, however, the love has ventured across the seas and you can now see baseball played nationally in Australia. Baseball was also included as a sport in the Pan Pacific Masters held here on the Gold Coast last year,” Mrs Arlow said.

Judging from the numbers, baseball has a solid fan base in Robina, and the Robina Braves club is continuing to grow and get better.

“Robina Braves has been incorporated since 1995 – it started as a club where seniors could come together and play. It has grown dramatically since 2015 when we introduced Juniors to the GCBA competition. We have four senior teams and seven junior teams – that’s 350 players and families,” Mrs Arlow said.

“We are part of a seven-club region, that feeds players into our State body and team called Brisbane Bandits, who are the current ABL Champions.  Recently, a player, who is the coach of our Little League Minors team, lead our team to a silver medal!  This was the first time our Juniors had played in this division and made it to the grand final,” she said.

Growing Robina’s baseball players to greatness, the Robina Braves mission goes beyond being the best player to being a great person too and the club is proud of their commitment to contributing to the local Robina and wider Gold Coast City community.

“We’re a not for profit organisation that strides towards being friendly, supportive and family-oriented, as well as providing a place where anyone can learn and enjoy what we think is one of the greatest sports ever created” Mrs Arlow said.

“We have senior teams playing all year round and a specialised junior competition running each summer. Our club participates in the Gold Coast Baseball Association League tournament, with teams across many divisions and we believe the competition supports skill levels and ages to grow their abilities and build new friendships. We are always looking for new people to come and join in the fun!” she said.

With the club located in the heart of Gold Coast City, Robina, Mrs Arlow said they are the best placed club to serve the wider Gold Coast community.

“The birthplace of Robina Braves is Robina Common, tucked away in the heart of the Gold Coast in thriving, progressive Robina – the home of more than 30,000 happy faces,” she said.

“Our Robina club is special because we are all there to enjoy the sport, develop our players, introduce new players and have fun!  I meet loads of people along the way and we are all striving to make our club better than the rest by encouraging players to return, having a fun environment at every training day or game day, supporting both seniors and juniors,” Mrs Arlow said.

Robina Group, as part of its generous community philanthropy and sponsorship program, has recently pledged a $5,000 donation to the local baseball club in recognition of their contribution to the Robina community.

The Robina Braves were recognised and nominated for Robina Group’s sponsorship program through Hermann Vorster, Councillor for Division 11, who put the club forward as a worthy local organisation.

Club Secretary, Jacquie Arlow, said the $5,000 donation will help the club rebuild the canteen, as they manage their continued expansion.

“Robina Braves has recently undergone some minor renovations at the club, including works completed to our batting cage with lights, pitching mounds and diamond, storage area and change room. Our next renovation is set to be the canteen. Robina Group’s generous donation of $5,000 will be used towards tiling, new cupboard fitouts and an overall revamp of this area,” Mrs Arlow said.

With the senior winter season just kicking off, now is a great time to visit Robina Braves, try out their beloved sport of baseball and check out this growing community club.
