Robina will enjoy a historic community celebration as the Queens Baton passes
Batonbearers will take more than a million steps across Australia to bring the Queen’s baton to the Gold Coast for the 2018 Commonwealth Games this April.
After arriving in Queensland on December 24th, the baton appeared at several major Gold Coast events before heading south to commence an epic journey. The baton is currently making its way through New South Wales before it heads south through the Australian Capital Territory and on to Tasmania. After travelling back up into Victoria, it will then head west to complete a continental loop, arriving back in Queensland on March 3rd.
Many towns across Queensland will see the baton come through and it will finally arrive back on the Gold Coast on April 1st, making its first stop at Tamborine Mountain and then arriving in Robina on April 3rd.
38 different batonbearers will carry the Queen’s baton in a relay across Robina with Matina Jewell carrying the baton into Lido Promenade at the northern end of Robina Town Centre at 1.18pm to kick off a community celebration.
Matina Jewell is one of the most decorated females in Australian military history. Matina has had some exceptional life experiences throughout her military career and she has gone on for forge a second career as a highly respected and sought after keynote motivational speaker with a focus on leadership, change and resilience.
Robina’s community event is expected to be huge with residents out in force to celebrate this historic event. Make sure you are at Robina Town Centre before 1pm if you want to join in the celebrations and see the baton arrive.
