The much anticipated upgrade of Robina City Parklands has now begun, with earthworks underway in the 17 hectare park in central Robina.

Gold Coast City Council plans to spend $15million to transform the parklands into the city’s own ‘Central Park’, creating a central community hub for Gold Coast City.

The proposed masterplan for the parklands adjacent to Vue Terrace Homes is to include a range of facilities from playgrounds and cafes to an event stage and off-leash dog area. The first trucks moved in on the parkland site last week, creating excitement for Robina locals and especially Vue Terrace Homes residents who will have a direct pedestrian link into the parklands.

Division 11 Gold coast City Councillor Hermann Vorster said the design of the precinct was ongoing but a range of new features would be added including:

  • an interactive water play area
  • an off-leash dog area
  • a kiosk and cafe capable of supporting major events
  • a village green, which can cater for 7,000 spectators during major events
  • yoga lawns and sports fields
  • a giant adventure playground
  • a series of interactive nature-inspired activities for children

Cr Vorster said the Robina development would become a major community hub.

“We have now designed 65 per cent of the project which will allow us to go to market to deliver the precinct,” he said.

“The vision for the area is bigger and bolder than what was originally planned and will deliver an epicentre of free family fun on the Gold Coast.

“It is at the geographic heart of Gold Coast City and it is a place that people can come together to enjoy, not just for a few hours but stay all day and will be able to come every day of the week.

“Now that the design has progressed we can start looking at some of the specific attractions.

“I am delighted that, for the first time, suburban Gold Coasters can enjoy the same world-class amenities that their coastal cousins have.”

A range of infrastructure will be created around the parklands to improve its accessibility, including a footpath connecting it with Cheltenham Drive.

The trucks which arrived last week brought fill for the site which was from the nearby $500 million M1 upgrade.

“Now the trucks are rolling in, the public will begin to see evidence of the work unfolding,” Cr Vorster said.

“Billboards will soon be going up and banners will line the main road taking you into the precinct.”

It is one of several major projects happening in the city’s heart, with over a billion dollars worth of development currently underway in Robina.

More than $300,000 was committed to the continued development of a masterplan for the “greenheart” of the city.  We will keep you up to date with the progress of the parklands and things unfold.
