Local food rescue charity OzHarvest will set up shop at this year’s festival, bringing Gold Coast City their food waste message.
According to Gold Coast City manager Lee Danahay, OzHarvest’s Food and Wine Festival stall is all about awareness raising and education.
“We will be raising awareness about OzHarvest and the work we are doing in the community with regard to food rescue.” Lee said.
“We will take the opportunity to educate people about food waste and how they can contribute to reducing food waste at home.”
According to Lee, OzHarvest’s bright yellow stand will be manned by friendly volunteers, ready to welcome foodies into the OzHarvest family.
“We have a range of ways people can engage with us and help support our Gold Coast operation, including our beautiful Urban Harvest cookbook, homemade ginger bread vans, fortune cookies, OzHarvest tea towels and more.”
OzHarvest’s latest cookbook, Urban Harvest, features 100 delicious food rescue recipes from 50 of the country’s most celebrated chefs, including Guillaume Brahimi, Kylie Kwong, Maggie Beer, Matt Moran and Neil Perry.
“Urban Harvest celebrates each chefs’ personal journey in the kitchen and applauds kitchen gardens of all shapes and sizes. Gold Coast City’s everyday cooks will be inspired with meals that can be easily created at home.” Lee said.
On offer at a special expo purchase price of $50, the Urban Harvest cookbooks is an affordable and essential addition to Gold Coast City homes.
“Each beautifully styled, lovingly captured and colourful page from the cookbook oozes passion, dedication and love from a top team of collaborators who generously volunteered their services to produce Urban Harvest free of cost to OzHarvest.” Lee said.
“This truly is one gift that keeps on giving – OzHarvest can provide two meals for every $1 donated, so for every book purchased, 100 meals can be delivered to those in need.”
