Earlier this month, Bond University hosted approximately 500 guests on their Robina campus for their annual Indigenous Gala. As sponsors of the Bond University Indigenous program, the Robina Group team were privileged to attend the gala and share in a night of culture and celebration.
With bush tucker themed cuisine, insightful stories from original Sapphires members Lois Peeler AM and Laurel Robinson and other guest speakers, musical performances by Tyus Arndt and Paul Kriesch and a breathtaking didgeridoo and flute finale by Jeremy Donovan, gala guests were treated to an evening of inspiring Indigenous entertainment.
During the festivities, guests bid on electronic hand held devices in a silent art auction and the night was wrapped up with a lively auction of Indigenous art pieces.
Thanks to the support of the business community and the generosity of gala guests, in a huge $100,000 jump from last year’s total, the 2014 Bond University Indigenous Gala proudly raised a total of $277,000 to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander higher education.
Bond’s Indigenous program helps remove the financial barrier to university education for Indigenous students by offering scholarships and ongoing support; a true reflection of Bond’s commitment to closing the gap in Indigenous access to education and completion of degrees.
Recognising the profound difference education can make in an individual’s life, as well as to the lives of their families and communities, Bond University hope to continue to allow Indigenous students to grow, learn and inspire their peers and to drive generational change for Indigenous Australians.
