This Sunday 20 July 2014 Bond University hosts its final Live at Bond Music Series event for the year and it’s set to go out with a bang, featuring talented local contemporary string quartet Quatro and modern country-Celtic superstars the Round Mountain Girls.
Made up of two current Bond University students and their two former schoolmates, Quatro is bringing a fresh and innovative style to the traditional string quartet and can be described as edgy, angelic, wild and unique.
Promising an exciting stage show, complete with polished choreography and flawless vocals, this dynamic foursome will bring you classical fused with modern rock, with their musical menu featuring a superb spectrum of songs, from classic rock anthem Guns n Roses’ ‘Sweet Child of Mine’ to Leonard Cohen’s hauntingly intense ‘Hallelujah’.
Lead violinist and vocalist Amity Brand is currently completing a Bachelor of Journalism at Bond, with her sights set on the television industry after graduating at the end of 2014. She brings a background in musical theatre and acting, with TV gigs on Channel 10’s Totally Wild and Scope, as well as starring in plenty of commercials.
Bandmate and fellow Bondie, Vanessa Smith, is also enrolled at Bond, completing her Psychology degree at CBDRobina’s iconic tertiary facility and combines her study timetable with a busy extracurricular schedule of live gigs.
Together with their home-town Bundaberg high school friends, Radha Sukla and Claudia Vogel, this vibrant ensemble make up Quatro and are pioneering a unique and modern sound, branching into country, Celtic and rock genres.
The Gold Coast City based musicians have been grabbing national attention, winning the Golden Fiddle High Achievement Award at Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2011 and beating 30,000 other hopefuls, the foursome exploded on to the stage opening Channel 10’s Young Talent Time, with their exciting mixture of ‘With or Without You’ and ‘Explosion’.
More than just talented musicians, these four women have passion for both music and giving back. The award-winning group busked in the streets of Tamworth in 2011 to fundraise for North Queensland flood victims and in 2012, they toured North Queensland to fundraise for Angel Flight. Following in 2013, Quatro played at Hervey Bay fundraising Happy Hearts, raising money for orphanages in India.
