CBD Robina is continuing to establish itself as Gold Coast City’s medical hub, with the Robina Hospital Simulated Learning Environment facility receiving the highest accreditation from the Queensland Health Clinical Skills Development Service.
The facility, a collaboration between Robina Hospital and Bond University Clinical Education and Research Centre, is the first in Queensland to be awarded accreditation as a ‘skills centre’. Queensland Health’s Clinical Skills Development Service director of simulation, Daryl Campher, said the site is of great benefit to the Gold Coast health industry.
“The site is immensely practical for both staff and students,” he said.
“Training is located within a hospital, in a hospital environment with real-world hospital processes that greatly assists the transition of medical students to begin working with life patients.
“This is also beneficial for the health industry itself, as this will create more skilled, more knowledgeable medical students that can deliver a safe, high quality care.”
The clinical skills facility will host a combined 900 hours of simulation every month, and simulates a real medical environment through computerised simulation techniques, simulated patient actors and human patient simulators.
The facility is the latest addition to the ongoing development of CBD Robina’s medical hub. In the heart of the precinct is Robina Hospital, Queensland’s sixth largest hospital that now comprises 364 beds and a variety of inpatient and outpatient services and care.
Queensland Health’s new Robina Health Precinct is located opposite the hospital in Campus Crescent and is home to a number of community health and outpatient services. Completed last year, the multi-storey health facility brings together a range of essential health services for the community, including aged and palliative care, community child health services, outreach maternity services, rehabilitation services, and service development and transition unit.
Robina Group’s Campus Alpha building adjacent to the Robina Health Precinct also houses a variety of medical services, including Clear Smiles Orthodontics, Full Circle Health Care, Queensland Health Dental, Queensland Health Persistent Pain and Queensland Health Disability Services. Campus Alpha, developed by Robina Group was awarded Gold Coast CIty’s first 5 star NABERS Energy Rating and is now fully leased
Across Laver Drive to the east of the hospital, The Hearing Aid Centre is located in The Wharf Building, and a number of medical practitioners operate out of The Rocket, and Riverwalk Place including City Fertility, Gold Coast Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and Invisible Lingual Braces.
With a comprehensive array of medical services, CBD Robina is now an established central Gold Coast health hub that brings together a mix of health services for the community. The health precinct is set to expand even further, as a number of sites in the area have been approved and are available for medical use.
