2018-19 City Budget
City Budget deliberations have commenced for 2018-19 with community engagement open until 29 March 2018. You can personally help shape the $1.4 billion budget and ensure Division 11 gets a slice of the pie for future upgrades of our parks, footpaths, roads, streetscape and much more. Pick up a hard copy of the survey to complete at any City library or Administration office. Every submission is counted and valuable; this is your chance to have your say for your family: https://www.gchaveyoursay.com.au/budget1819
Get set for the Games
Are you and your family ready for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games? The Games is going to be an exciting time for our city – the largest sporting event Australia will see this decade plus the biggest sporting spectacular the Gold Coast has ever seen! On 4 April 2018, the event will commence but preparations need to be in place now for locals and businesses. The area around Robina Stadium will host the Rugby Sevens from Friday 13 April to Sunday 15 April and will be busy with both vehicles and pedestrians. Familiarise yourself now with how you could be affected, visit getsetforthegames.com
Road safety upgrade for Robina intersection
Great news! Work starts soon on the much-needed upgrade to the Ron Penhaligon Way and Beauty Point Drive intersection. This $250,000 project will be completed next month. Improvements include pavement widening including a new kerb, new pedestrian refuge, ramps and pathway plus new road signage and line marking. Residents in the surrounding catchment will receive a notification in the mail about the project – if they haven’t already. I urge all residents to please observe warning signs and exercise caution when driving through this area. Stay updated online by visiting, cityofgoldcoast.com.au/projects
Clean Up Australia Day
With the Commonwealth Games just around the corner, what an opportune time to clean up our streets in preparation for the visitors and athletes who will be in our city!? Next month, I will host our annual Clean Up Australia Day event on Sunday 4 March in Robina to target some litter hot spots. Come join our passionate community and clean up our parks. All supplies provided on the day plus our friends from the Robina Lions Club will run a free and delicious BBQ for attendees post-clean up! Gather some friends, register your place and view the event details on my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/events/353784958433409/
Consulting with my community
You’re invited to my first Town Hall for 2018. Town Halls are set in a relaxed environment for residents to hear what’s in store for Division 11 and also provides an opportunity for you to let me know what needs fixing. Join me on Tuesday 6 March from 7pm at the Varsity Lakes Sports House on Christine Avenue. Light refreshments will be provided by the Robina Red Cross Branch. All residents welcome – come and meet your neighbours! Alternatively, I’m available to be contacted about local issues by email division11@goldcoast.qld.gov.au or mobile 0405 414 931 at any time.
What’s on at our local library?
Robina Library continues to be one of the most frequented libraries on the Gold Coast. If you haven’t already had a look at their calendar of events, I encourage you to do so. The free activities are informative, social and cater to both the young and old. View what’s available to you at any time through their online booking system, or call the Robina branch on 07 5581 1600 to book in.
Coming up in the next few weeks you can join others in celebrating the Chinese New Year, view a cooking demonstration, finesse your creative writing processes and learn how to fix your business website and increase traffic for sales.
Join a thriving online community
Use social media to raise issues, make suggestions, and hear from other locals just like you. Residents are invited to join our active Division 11 Facebook group. Pop in to the group and meet your friendly neighbours:https://www.facebook.com/pg/CrHermannVorster/community/
Calling Robina’s junior environmental warriors
One of my priorities is looking after our environment and since my election, I have seen in excess of 40,000 trees go into the ground and continue to support new tree plantings and events across the Division. Next month, our young people from three to 13 years old can play an active role in caring for our natural environment at the Junior Landcare Planting Day on Saturday 10 March at the Robina City Parklands. The event is free with limited numbers, register online today: http://bit.ly/juniorlandcaretreeplanting
