Gold Coast’s central-city park (under construction) is set to get even bigger
Robina Group recently announced it is donating a 5.5 hectare site to the City of Gold Coast. This will enable it to increase the scale of the adjoining Robina City Parklands to over 22 hectares, and it is one of the biggest deals of its kind in decades. Robina City Parklands is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar transformation, with the vision of delivering Gold Coast’s answer to New York’s Central Park.
Over a four decade history, Robina Group has gifted numerous parcels of land for community use, including the 17 hectares on which Robina City Parklands is currently being constructed.
Robina Group CEO, Hylton Slater said gifting this additional land to enhance the scope and size of the parklands was important to Robina Group’s ongoing legacy as community founders and creators.
“The Robina City Parklands project is a magnificent Gold Coast City Council initiative and one that we are proud to be able to contribute to as part of our overall masterplan vision for Robina,” Mr Slater said.
“Robina City Parklands will become a signature Gold Coast recreational hub – our very own Central Park – adding immensely to the lifestyle and investment value of the entire Robina and Gold Coast community.”
The gifted site adjoins Robina Group’s $170 million Vue Terrace Homes masterplanned community. The final homes in the impressive Vue project are now nearing completion of construction.
Mr Slater said the additional gift of land would boost the size of Robina City Parklands from 17 to 22.5 hectares allowing for additional open greenspace and public amenity.
“It’s a win for Gold Coast City and a win for our owners in Vue Terrace Homes, who have the parklands literally on their doorstep.”
Work by Gold Coast City Council has begun on the exciting new Robina City Parklands, including the creation of:
- An interactive water play area
- A kiosk and cafe capable of supporting major events
- A village green, which can cater for 7,000 spectators at major events
- Yoga lawns and sports fields.
- A giant adventure playground
- An off-leash dog area
- A series of interactive nature-inspired activities for children
City leaders are now devising possible additional features and attractions that could be created with the additional land acquisition.
Division 11 Councillor Hermann Vorster said the result means thousands upon thousands of locals will now have more open space.
“This will protect the original promise of Robina which was planned and marketed to be the Gold Coast’s living paradise.” he said.
Mayor Tom Tate said the land handover was a fantastic outcome for Gold Coast residents.
“Securing open space for everyone to enjoy remains a priority for this council and it is vital we protect our unique lifestyle as the city grows.” he said.
