When travelling around Robina, you would have noticed plenty of construction activity taking place on key intersections  – and more is on the way!  We have the low-down on a range of Council upgrades that are already being completed or are planned, with the aim of allowing us to spend less time commuting and more time enjoying our amazing city.  Here’s our list of major road work locations in Robina and what it means for you.

Congestion busters

The Gold Coast City Council is currently working on a brand-new program to bust congestion in our community through a range of initiatives, including the light rail connection, upgraded roads, more cycle ways and easy-to-use public transport.

The Robina community has already received an upgrade to the Scottsdale Drive and Christine Avenue intersection, with a former roundabout replaced with traffic signals, improving  safety and efficiency when travelling through the intersection.

For those of us travelling south on Scottsdale Drive, an added slip lane turning left onto Christine Avenue will make the journey more efficient and pain-free, while the upgraded street lighting will help provide a clearer and safer journey.

The Council has also improved pedestrian facilities and off-road cycle amenities, making it easier than ever to use a healthier and more environmentally-friendly mode of transportation through Robina.

Robina Parkway intersection

Gold Coast City Council is currently implementing a road network master plan, which includes a ‘pinch points’ upgrade system, ‘turn left on red’ trial and removal of inefficient transit lanes at the Robina Parkway intersection.

This upgrade is in process and will mean smoother traffic flows, with traffic lights becoming better coordinated and allowing incidents to be responded to more efficiently.

Gooding Drive roundabout

The Gooding Drive roundabout is undergoing a spruce up in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games.

Starting on the approach from Gooding Drive east, continuing to the roundabout and connecting to Gooding Drive west, an additional lane will be added to reduce congestion at this intersection.

The $6.7million construction will encompass a new free-flow slip lane from Gooding Drive west to Nerang-Broadbeach Road north to increase efficiency. There will also be a partial two-aspect (red and amber) traffic signal installed on the Gooding Drive east and Robina Parkway north approaches to improve safety.

We will be able to better navigate the roundabout with new line-marking and directional signage, while extended footpaths, cycling connections and road crossings will welcome a more environmentally-friendly mode of transport.

Ron Penhaligon Way and Beauty Point Drive

Ron Penhaligon Way and Beauty Point Drive will receive a make-over to the tune of $181,000 in time for the Commonwealth Games.

A brand new channelised right-turn lane will be implemented to ensure safety and clarity for the community with a central median installed on the northern approach.

We will also see a bus stop upgrade on Cheltenham so we can cruise around our community in a more environmentally friendly way.

Cottesloe Drive, between University Drive and Bermuda Street

If you regularly travel on Cottesloe Drive, you will have noticed the road has been undergoing a make-over between University Drive and Bermuda Street over the last few weeks.

The Council team is undertaking asphalt restorations so your drive along this busy road during the school and work run can proceed as smoothly as possible.

Between 7pm and 5am, the road works are turned up a notch with lane closures – so be sure to factor this into your journey home from dinner and after school activities.

This little tweak is set to be finished in the next few weeks, so we’ll be cruising on this brand new road in no time!
