Deli delight
This gourmet grocer in The Kitchens is more than a delicatessen; it’s an attractive lunch spot. Situated on the ground floor of The Kitchens opposite Woolworths, Barbosa Fine Food Deli offers casual dining for breakfast and lunch with an artisan flair!
A brilliant display of colour greets us as we enter the store, with local and imported goods adorning the walls. The deli counter itself is stacked full of chilled meats, dips and cheeses. It’s a cozy space with a bright exterior and wooden tables nestled throughout for customers dining in.
The cafe menu has a variety of lunchtime options from lighter to more substantial meals, with a diverse offering of flavours from around the world. It’s difficult to choose, but we can’t go past the open chicken tortilla and Thai beef brisket salad.
Our drinks arrive at the table first. The cold press ‘Refresher’ juice is a clean combination of apple, watermelon and mint. The organic fair trade coffee is smooth, robust, and it is served hot! Our lunch arrives soon after, beautifully presented and very impressive in size. The hearty chicken tortilla is open-toasted on a soft corn wrap, layered with sweet potato fries, crispy chicken with a spicy kick and generous toppings of guacamole and garlic aioli. The Thai beef salad is a winning combination of crispy vegetables, roasted peanuts, coriander, chilli and mint, tossed with warm, slow-cooked beef brisket and of course, a sweet and sticky Thai salad dressing. The flavours are clean and honest, all using fresh local ingredients.
Unable to resist, we followed our meals with a delicious miniature passionfruit cheesecake from the deli window. It is tart, creamy and heavenly!
Everything we tasted was undoubtedly fresh and high in quality. Mains are around the $15-20 mark, and while customers do need to place their order at the counter, the service is warm and attentive with staff regularly checking in. The menu thoughtfully caters to dietary needs, offering some gluten-free and vegetarian options as well as a fantastic kids menu with items under $10.

Barbosa Fine Foods Deli offers gourmet meals in a comfortable, relaxed environment. Open for Breakfast and Lunch, this is an excellent option in The Kitchens – and why not stock up on some specialty imported food items before you go! Open 7 days a week from 8.30 am to 5 pm or until 9 pm on Thursday nights.
