After twenty-five successful years, Somerset’s Celebration of Literature Festival will be refreshed with a new title, Somerset Storyfest.

Since the beginning of time, the art of story telling has been gifted from generation to generation; so we caught up with Somerset College Festival Director, Andrea Lewis to learn why story telling and literature remain relevant.

Over the years Somerset College has had some fabulous thought-leaders share their story onstage and this year will be no different.

Somerset Storyfest Festival Director, Andrea Lewis has credited speaker quality to rapid ticket sales:

“We showcase a variety of business savvy guest speakers and in turn, unite a high calibre of interested business representatives.”

Following the successes of past business lunches, Andrea was pleased to share Australian television and film actress, comedian and writer Magda Szubanski, will be taking centre stage at Royal Pines Resort, on the 7^th of September.

“Magda joins the Business Lunch to share her journey as an immigrant, rise to fame and the subsequent development of Magda, both a brand and business. It will be interesting to hear how one’s personal story can impact business.”

Acknowledging every challenge shapes an individual’s story, net proceeds from sponsorship partners and ticket sales will be donated to the Somerset Literary Fund, a charity that assists disadvantaged children to experience Somerset Storyfest, a fresh new title for the Celebration of Literature Festival.

Through the continued support of the Somerset Literary Fund and in turn Sponsored Schools Program by many families over the years, over 10,000 regional students have been able to enjoy the program since 2006.

“Students are transported, accommodated and given the opportunity to visit the author sessions and workshops. Some students have travelled from as far as the Northern Territory, regional and far north Queensland.”

Andrea added “I firmly believe a child who learns a love of reading and writing, will do better in school and thus life in general. I believe the social media movement has led to a reduction in readers. At this time, parents must foster a love of literature early, so children return to literature later in life.”
