Bringing childcare to Robina

Sunkids Children’s Centres is planning to open its third new facility in CBDRobina in as many years, after securing a development site in the Stadium Village precinct from Robina master developer, Robina Group.

The childcare provider, through its operator Kinder Educentres, has purchased a 2,302sqm parcel on Stadium Drive, at an undisclosed price, to build a new state-of-the-art centre.

Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2017, for a slated mid-2018 opening.

The site is one of three in the precinct to settle this month, with the two adjoining parcels on Stadium Drive, measuring 2,286sqm and 3,674sqm, both selling to local Gold Coast businesses.

Robina Group general manager Hylton Slater said the three sites were originally part of one larger tract of land, which was subdivided to meet demand for smaller development parcels.

“The strong pent-up interest for approved sites of this size meant all three were sold off-market,” he said.

“There are limited parcels available in CBDRobina – and anywhere in central Gold Coast City – which is why businesses wanting to secure a foothold in the area are moving quickly.

“Both the population and workforce in Robina are predicted to undergo significant expansion between now and 2050, with the number of people living in the suburb to treble and those employed here to double.

“As such, Robina is appealing to a broad range of businesses wanting to capitalise on this growth, while taking advantage of the area’s accessibility, innovation and the high calibre of corporates and government departments based here.”

Sunkids has invested heavily in CBDRobina, including purchasing two development sites, constructing a purpose-built facility on Scottsdale Drive, which opened last year, and acquiring and opening an existing centre, also on Scottsdale Drive, in 2015.

Kinder Educentres chief executive Abdul Omar said the new facility on Stadium Drive was expected to offer 105 places and would get underway as soon as possible, pending Council approval.

“The planned opening of our latest centre at Stadium Village will go a long way to catering for the needs of families in Robina, along with those who are working in the business precinct,” he said.

“This site was ideal because of its proximity to Robina Train Station, Bond Institute of Health and Sport, Robina Hospital and the soon-to-be-built Vue Terrace Homes.

“By building a centre in this location, we will be providing quality childcare in a convenient area for those working and living in Robina and also for those parents who commute to Brisbane using the train service.”

Mr Omar said the new facility would be the fourth Sunkids Children’s Centre on the Gold Coast, adding to the two centres on Scottsdale Drive and one in Burleigh Waters, and the 14th to open in south east Queensland.

“On completion of this centre, Sunkids Children’s Centres will be able to provide a total of 391 day places to the Gold Coast community,” he said.

“We are also in advanced negotiations to establish more centres on the Gold Coast to meet the high demand for quality childcare, through our philosophy of ‘learn with fun’, so watch this space.”

All three sites that have just sold in Stadium Village were approved under the Robina Central Planning Agreement (RCPA), which guides the development of Robina.

The RCPA supports a wide mix of uses and provides town planning advantages, offering flexibility and innovation opportunities to businesses investing in Robina.
