Join the Club Robina Celebrations

Club Robina is celebrating its 30th year and you’re invited to attend a two course luncheon and bowls on Saturday the 15th of October.

The Robina Bowls Club has a reputation as one of the friendliest and welcoming Gold Coast lawn bowls clubs around, as well as being one of the most picturesque – being set in a leafy green part of Robina with a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere.

Master developer Robina Group was supportive of Club Robina’s foundation from the outset of its more than three decade history.  Seeing the value in providing lawn bowls facilities as an additional attraction for the interstate migrants who were rapidly enhancing the population of the Gold Coast and buying properties in Robina.

Integral in the club’s inception, Robina Group helped the club to secure the ideal site and also assisted with the actual building and landscaping of the club.

Originally comprising one green and a relocated secondhand building, affectionately dubbed ‘The Tin Shed’, the Robina bowls club was officially established in April 1986.

It now comprises three meticulously manicured greens and a clubhouse which has a welcoming and inviting charm, echoing the club’s moniker ‘The Friendly Club’.

Club Robina’s facilities have been updated and upgraded several times over the years thanks to the support of the community as well as winning Government grants.

Today, the clubhouse is comfortably air-conditioned and furnished, taking in sweeping views over the greens and gardens, and its restaurant ‘Robina Greens Bistro’.

Solar panels installed on the roof keep costs down and make it more environmentally friendly.  Club members continue to contribute to fundraising efforts for the independent club.

Not only for bowls, Club Robina is promoted as a venue for parties, weddings and corporate functions thanks to ample car parking, a well-stocked bar and dance floor together with excellent catering options.

Club members have witnessed many changes to the sport during the club’s 30 year history with uniforms that included ties for men and rigid skirt length requirements for ladies giving way to casual attire and bare feet.

Both the bowls used, and the greens played on, have also changed, as well as a more balanced representation of male and female bowlers, both as members and in administrative roles for the club.

A handful of foundation members still participate in the club’s administration, with many others adorning the clubhouse walls in photographs, plaques and honour boards.

Current club chairman Terry Marsh and his Board of Directors drive the continuing success and viability of the club and are always looking for innovative ways to increase membership, improve facilities and attract a wider age demographic to the club.

Special interest teams which are still based at Club Robina today include the ladies team – The Robina Flyers, established in 1993 and the men’s team – The Robina Rebels, established in 1991.  More recently the monthly Sunday ladies team The Rebelettes was established in 2008.

Also of important note is the Blind Bowlers team formed at Club Robina in 1988. The visually impaired bowlers are assisted by able vision assistants and have won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at State and National competitions and represented Australia at an international level.

Barefoot Bowls are held every Sunday which has proven to be very popular with the general public and has been the biggest driver of full and social members to the club.
