Jimmy, familiar and friendly Robina fixture

Robina is a tight-knit locals suburb which has been growing exponentially since it’s 1980 inception.  While still a relatively young area, Robina has been home to many colourful characters over the years and the insideR team love bringing you their stories and sharing with you what makes Robina special for them.

Jimmy is a familiar fixture in the day to day lives of many Robina, having owned the local hardware store for more than 12 years and living in the area for more than 20.

Known as ‘Jimmy from the hardware store’ –  he’s chief hardware supplier, a golf enthusiast and an Italian food lover, but more prominently, James Gallagher, has lived in Robina for more than two decades.

Having raised his family in Robina, Jimmy has become a familiar face to much of the community, who he has come to know through neighborhood soirees and owning Robina Hardware on Ron Penhaligon Way, which now operates under Home Timber and Hardware.

“It’s a beautiful part of the Gold Coast, a really family-orientated area,” he said

“My family and kids have grown up in Robina and I would not have wanted it any other way.  It really is a magnificent place.

“The people are what make Robina and it is great to be able to live and work in such a tight-knit and supportive community.

“Over the 12 years that I have owned my hardware store, I have met so many people and families, who I am now on a first name basis with.

“I love coming to work knowing that I’m going to serve and help people I met years ago, who are now my friends and, for some,  I’ve seen their kids go from toddlers running around the store to teenagers.”

What is notable to Jimmy is the development that has gradually evolved across Robina over the years, which he said has paved the way for a well-established community.

“When I first came to Robina there were a lot of spare lots, which are mostly full now,” he said.

“There has been an improvement to the properties and the establishment of more shops, restaurants and schools, which has continued to make Robina a fantastic place to call home.

“We have such a community vibe – everyone is friendly and approachable and over the past couple of years especially, it has become a strong and well-developed community.

“There is always an event to zip off to – whether it be at the Bowls Club down the road, at Robina Town Centre, the stadium or the community centre, there is truly something for everyone and many opportunities to meet fellow Robina residents.”
