The Commonwealth Games is almost here and with it comes exciting events and once in a lifetime opportunities for lucky locals.

Whether you’re looking to get to your favourite sporting showdown or work in Robina, here’s all you need to know about the biggest event ever to land on the Gold Coast.

What’s on

Crowds of 27,500 are expected to gather at Cbus Super Stadium from April 13 to 15 to enjoy the swift ball skills, hectic hits and admirable teamwork of the Rugby Sevens.

Known for generating an electric atmosphere, this competition will be turned up a notch, as the GC2018 hosts the very first women’s sevens series during a Commonwealth Games.

We recommend taking the Route 750 bus to make sure you don’t miss out on the big event.  It will stop at Robina Station, Stop E – Commonwealth Games, getting you as close to the door as possible.

If you’re travelling from far and wide, the train is going to be your best bet, with Robina Station conveniently located in the heart of our community.

What the locals need to know

You’ll need to apply for a Local Access Permit to get to your property if you are within a restricted access area.

The permits are now available for residents, business owners and employees, along with  essential service providers who need to access Commonwealth Games precincts.

If you need a Local Access Permit, don’t forget to visit here to apply before the Games kick off.

The following Robina roads and streets will be closed or affected at times during the games:

April 6 to 16: Stadium Drive and East Lane.

April 10 to 15: Promethean Way will be accessible to Bond University staff only, with the Bond Institute of Health and Sport (BIHS), and neighbouring street Centreline Place, offering no parking during this time.

April 13 to 15: Cheltenham Road (Laver Drive to Robina Station Road), Robina Station Road and Paddington Place. Robina State High School will offer no on-street parking or loading during this period.

We would also recommend avoiding the M1 near Exit 82 from 9am to midday and 3pm to 8pm most days, as it is expected to get busy!
