Newly developed homes in Robina are NBN Fibre-ready on completion allowing residents to connect to the latest fibre optic broadband internet network and access super-fast speed connections.

The National Broadband Network (NBN) is an Australian government initiative designed to bring fast internet to homes around Australia and supersede the ageing copper network.

It’s expected 93% of Australian premises will have fixed line access while the remaining 7% will access NBN via wireless and/or satellite technologies.

Why NBN?

Demand for increasing speeds has led to the copper network being unable to cope as more and more data and connections put a strain on the network.

Not only that, the copper network is already running at its maximum speed in certain areas capping out at 24Mbps with ADSL2+.  Even then, a connection at this speed is only accessible if you are lucky enough to be close enough to the exchange.

NBN fibre connections currently reach 100Mbps with both download and upload speed far greater than anything the copper network can provide, while also having the potential for future increases.

So what difference can high-speed fibre internet make for people?

1. Videoconferencing

The ability to phone family, friends or conduct business meetings via Skype is dependent on the bandwidth available from both sides.  Fibre internet’s guaranteed quality of service ensures better results when you’re using videoconferencing software opening up possibilities such as remote learning using interactive whiteboards for virtual classes, ideal for students unable to travel long distances to attend classes, or effectively running your own business from home, no matter where your customers and associates are located.

2. Telehealth

Fibre connections allow health services such as nurses and doctors conducting video consults with remove patients, monitor life-sustaining medical equipment in patient’s homes and provide live therapy and exercise sessions without the patient required to travel long distance to a nearby specialist.

3. Gaming

The multi billion-dollar video game market relies on speedy ping times to provide a smooth online gaming experience. Fibre internet helps provide improved ping times speed and reliability to make online gaming a less frustrating experience. In-game voice and video chat will also benefit greatly and handled without issue.

4. Media & Entertainment

Internet TV services such as Foxtel and FetchTV will be available for use via the NBN. On-demand movie services will allow streaming of high definition movies to your TV in real time.

5. Working from home

Apply for jobs via videoconferencing, participate in meetings or work from home to look after a sick child. Whether you run your own business or work for an employer, the NBN is an invaluable tool for communication and productivity.

Robina Group homes built since the NBN rollout have all been fibre-ready on completion and several residents now operate remote businesses from their homes.  Residents living in CityVillage Terrace Homes, Boheme Apartments and Botanique Terrace Homes have all had the opportunity to connect to the NBN and recently launched Vue Terrace Homes will also have this connectivity once built.
