Pitch @ Palace – Gold Coast comes out on top

It was fantastic to be invited to Pitch@Palace Australia On Tour’s Gold Coast showcase at Bond University recently.

What an exceptional shortlist of entrepreneurs we witnessed with their 3 minute pitches to HRH Prince Andrew, The Duke of York, on his recent whirlwind tour of Australia.

Whilst all 16 presentations were fantastic and diverse, covering a wide range of innovative business ideas in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, just eight start-ups were selected to move onto the bootcamp round in Sydney.

Those who moved onto the next round from the Gold Coast event were Accessibili-T, Banish My Cold Sore, Blockgrain, Cryptophoto.com, Faebella, Koorca, NevHouse and Zottie Dottie – pictured above with Prince Andrew.

From these, the successful groups to continue further were Cryptophoto.com, Faebella, Nevhouse and Zottie Dottie, who were shortlisted to pitch to the Duke of York again in the Australian finals at Government House in Sydney on 28 September.

Just three winners were chosen in Sydney to represent Australia at St James’ Palace in London in December this year.  We are extremely proud to report that two of those three winners were from the Gold Coast, being Faebella and NevHouse with the third winner being HireUp from Sydney.

Faebella- Activewear with an Authentic Indigenous twist

The honour couldn’t have gone to a more deserving entrepreneur than Bond University Business/Laws student, Alishia Geary.  Faebella’s mission is to share the rich culture and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by presenting their art on active wear, and now Geary will embark on her first overseas trip and have the opportunity to showcase her idea on a global stage on 6 December at St James’ Palace in London.

NevHouse

In an amazing new concept in both sustainability and social enterprise, NevHouse takes the waste that we throw away and turns it into affordable shelter.  These shelters include low cost homes, school classrooms, medical clinics and other structures – all made from recycled materials, and all able to be built in just 5 days.  Truly incredible!  We wish founder Nev Hyman all the best in London – regardless of the results there, this is a local business we can see really going places in the future.  Read more about Nevhouse here.
