Italian – the ultimate mid-winter comfort food

Our insideR team members are spoilt for lunch choices with so many options on our doorstep at The Kitchens.  Hungry after a big morning at work, two of our team members had a hankering for some Italian deliciousness and decided to give Lucky Lucianos a whirl.

Lucky Luciano’s is the latest creation of top Sydney restaurateur Tom Chidiac, the man behind Sydney’s The Naked Duck and Melbourne’s Sir Chapel Brewery at The Tramsheds.

With a warm and inviting fitout and cosy environment, the restaurant transports you back to a time of home cooking and family hospitality.

After admiring the open kitchen, pizzeria and pasta bar, our insideR crew settled in to pour over the extensive menu.  This is what they reported back on the Lucky Luciano’s fare:

Starting with the entrees, which had generously sized portions, we went with the Luciano’s meatballs, calamari fritti with lemon, sage and aioli and the zucchini flowers, stuffed with ricotta, parmesan and basil. The standout entree here was the stuffed zucchini flowers, which tasted fresh and flavoursome.  The meatballs definitely impressed too with a soft texture and hearty, complemented perfectly by the fine Napoli sauce.

By the time we finished the entrees, we were starting to feel full but seeing the vibrantly coloured, fresh baked pizzas being brought out to other patrons, soon got our tummies rumbling again.

For drinks we went with the South Australian Lobo Apple Cider &  Italian white wine Aquilania Pinot Gris, both of which we can highly recommended.

While we didn’t have the pleasure this time of trying any of the pizzas, we did get to sample the ravioli of spinach, ricotta & parmesan with pink sauce and the
potato gnocchi with gorgonzola, sage and toasted walnuts.

The ravioli portion was on the small side, but after the very filling entrees, the well-balanced sauce and fresh ravioli was a great way to finish.

For the cheese lovers out there, you should definitely try the cheese-loaded soft potato gnocchi.

So if you’re looking for a comforting Italian experience in Robina, give Lucky Luciano’s a try.

Lucky Luciano’s are open daily from 8am to 9pm and you can check out the full menu by visiting their Facebook page.
