Today marks the beginning of Gold Coast City’s celebration of film and filmmakers, with the 13th annual Gold Coast Film Festival kicking off today.

For the next ten days, Gold Coast City will be treated to a fiesta of film – there’s panels, seminars and workshops for budding film industry stars to learn, there’s a whole lot of films on show from every genre, including horror, indie and animation, there’ll be the chance to rub shoulders with some special guests from the film industry, plus a whole lot more.

In an exciting and accessible addition to their program, the Gold Coast Film Festival will host a series of free community movie screenings.

Much loved local sports and recreation park, Robina Common, located on Ron Penhaligon Way, will transform to showcase two community screenings. Lush green sports fields with a range of trees mean Robina Common can offer both sun and shade and it’s central Robina location offer easy access to all of Gold Coast City.

On Friday 10 April from 6.30pm, Paddington bear will hit the screens at Robina Common, telling the story of a young Peruvian bear who ends up lost in London. Tickets are free and there’ll be a teddy bears picnic starting from 4pm.

On Sunday 12 April from 6.30pm, Robina’s home of soccer, Robina Common, will bring soccer to the big screen, showing the 2002 family film, Bend it Like Beckham. For some pre-film soccer fun, get to the Common at 4pm.

Just down the road at Robina’s Bond University, year 11 and 12 students will soak up the expertise of film industry practitioners as they share their knowledge for the Gold Coast Film Festival Future Filmmakers seminar and also get a sneak peek of the state of the art facilities at Bond’s film and television school.
