Hidden but not forbidden, Gold Coast’s new taste secret

We guarantee that this new licensed vegan restaurant nestled away upstairs at the bustling foodie precinct of The Kitchens at Robina Town Centre is unlike anything else you’ve seen on the Gold Coast.

The fairytale forest style theme with uniquely crafted timber furniture and kitschy figleaf dinnerware definitely gives a feeling of enchantment and wonder.

Attracted by the intriguing interior design and the rumour of a “colour changing cocktail”, our CBDRobina lunch posse decided to road test a variety of dishes and drinks on the menu, from steamed edamame to hand-cut sweet potato chips and tea smoked mushrooms.

Vegan and gluten free taste delights

All meals are gluten free and prepared in a low allergy kitchen.  Curiosity continues to prevail upon receiving the menu, with a whole host of dishes and drinks made from various herbs, plants and vegetables.

With a range of tapas, mains and desserts on the menu, one dish to definitely put on your radar is the “Calamari” made from coconut flesh and served with aioli which actually tastes pretty close to the real deal.

All provided an invigorating feeling of freshness and healthiness with plenty of flavour.

All dishes are made with love using vegan, organic and local ingredients where possible.

Liquid alchemy

The drinks menu is particularly of interest, with cocktails made from all sorts of plants and herbs making very colourful and interesting looking drinks.  Bar guests can browse the “liquid alchemy” menu by effect, with categories like energising, for lovers, for vitality, mood enhancing, refreshing and relaxing.

If you’re unsure about any of the menu contents, the friendly staff, or ‘alchemists’ are happy to explain the ingredients and benefits of each mystery potion in more detail.

Drinks are an interesting experience, with custom brewed alcohol and plants fusing to create all sorts of new tastes. In fact, drinking the Rising Geisha can best be described as feeling very much like drinking a plant, with an alcoholic buzz. It certainly tastes refreshing and you can certainly convince yourself that it’s a healthier option that your body will thank you for!

Aphrodite’s Tonic is a light and refreshing cocktail which was beautifuly served with actual rose petals in the glass which was a nice touch, and as promised the Cheshire Cat cocktail literally changed colours before our eyes.
